I've always loved dogs since childhood, and I must say that I do not remember periods of my life where I did not have a dog. I remember the first, Bobby, a white meticcione everything that I love being outside and chasing all the little dog in the area. I still remember as if it were Today, the day when he went home, blind in one eye, the victim of a neighbor who did not like that Bobby continues to come to his house to undermine the purity of her young bitch. I have a precise memory of each of my dogs, I remember Dick, a handsome black poodle, who returned home after a month of absence, when everyone in the family despaired of ever being able to see again. I could tell a story of all my furry friends, but I will only speak generally of so many German shepherds, Doberman some, of many Neapolitan mastiff, boxer, Volpini, and an unknown number of races. Today, living with a pair of beautiful border collie and three beautiful German Shepherds, my closest friends.
I must confess, with some reluctance, that the day I decided to attend a course to become an instructor, I firmly believe to know almost everything about dogs, however, to my amazement, after only one lesson I realized do not know anything.
This book starts from this premise, is a contribution, I hope good for all those who think they know everything about dogs, but also those who, instead, is aware that they know little and want to learn more.
I live in a beautiful land, Sicily is so rich in art and natural beauty, but so poor dog culture. I live in a land where the dog is still being trained almost for all, with coercion, where many people take the dog chain, where many people are living their dog locked up at home for life, a life sentence without having committed any crime.
But the funny thing is that these same people then complain because the dog does not listen to them, complain that Fido is rude "Do not call him back when, he pulls on the leash, jumps on you for the greetings, it destroys the plants, dig in the garden. "
These people do not realize that the education of the dog is a responsibility, that if the dog is rude, it is he who was deputy to bring him up, he did not. The Their solution to the problem, you usually get rid of the dog, give it to anyone of good will, and get a new one, which in turn will change, when that did not satisfy them.
This book is dedicated to them in the hope that they understand where is the error, and can change the way you think about the lives of their dogs, or alternatively, that a surrender to breed, after all, nobody forces them to do so .
The last dedication is for all those who improvise trainers, instructors for the time lost, for those who are convinced that a working dog should not be socialized, that you can not teach a dog to conduct a perfect foot without using a collar to strangle, to those who choose to train Fido systematically punishing every mistake. I hope that this book will at least arouse their curiosity to spur them to try different methods, more respectful of the dignity of animals.
I wish you a good read and an even better relationship with your dog.
